Officers from the Metropolitan Police Service’s Extradition Unit yesterday, Tuesday 7 December, arrested Shrien Prakash Dewani, 30, (29.12.79) on behalf of the South African authorities.

He surrendered himself at a Bristol police station and was arrested at 22.38 hrs on Tuesday 7 December under a Provisional Arrest Warrant issued earlier on the same evening, at the request of the South African authorities, on suspicion of conspiring to murder Anni Dewani.

Shrien Dewani is accused in a category 2 territory, namely South Africa, of the commission of (an) offence (s), the conduct of which occurred in that territory, which conduct would constitute the offence (s)

Conspiracy to Commit Murder contrary to section 1 of the Criminal Law Act 1977 if had it had occurred in England and Wales:

On 13 November 2010, in Cape Town, South Africa, conspired with others to murder Anni Dewani.

He is due to appear in custody at City of Westminster Magistrates’ Court later today, Wednesday 8 December
