Shortly before 0300 on Saturday 12 December 2009, the silver Toyota Avensis that Ali was driving hit a man in Watford Way, Hendon, outside Hendon Central tube station. The vehicle then collided with the central barrier.
The man, Yuriy Amoev ( 6.1.75 ) of Purley, was declared dead at the scene. Mr Amoev was married and the father of two small children. He was a Georgian national but living in the UK at the time of the collision.
Ali was arrested at the scene on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving when he failed the breath test administered by officers.
Ali appeared at Wood Green Crown court on Friday 10 December where he pleaded guilty to causing death by careless driving whilst over the drink drive limit.
As well as being sent to prison Ali was disqualified from driving for six years.
DS Geoff Harper of the Metropolitan Police Service, Road Death Investigation Unit said: "Let this be a stark warning to anyone who still thinks that it is acceptable to drink and drive. This time last year a family were devastated by the loss of a father to two young children because Ali gratuitously chose to get in his car when he had been drinking. Our thoughts are with the family of Mr Amoev"
"The Metropolitan Police Service will continue to carry out operations targeting those who drink and drive, particularly during the Christmas period, to make the roads safer for everyone who uses them."
