UKIP has announced to have suspended its candidate in North East Hampshire, Robert Blay, after he was secretly filmed threatening to shoot his Tory rival, Ranil Jayawardena, at an event attended by Nigel Farage. In his remarks, Blay alleged that Jayawardena was ‘not British enough to be in our parliament’ as his father was born in Sri Lanka.

The recorded video shows Blay alleging that Mr Jayawardena could be the country’s first British Asian prime minister. He stressed that “if he is I will personally put a bullet between his eyes. If this lad turns up to be our prime Minister I will personally put a bullet in him. That’s how strong I feel about it.” He added that “I won’t have this f***** as our Prime Minister. I absolutely loathe him.”

The secret recording was made when Mr Farage was delivering a speech in the South Thanet constituency where he hopes to become an MP. Mr Blay could be heard saying that “it makes me quite sick. But I’ve always said in my constituency you could put a monkey out there with a blue rosette on and it would win.” Blay explained that “his family have only been here since the Seventies. You are not British enough to be in our parliament. I’ve got 400 years of ancestry where I live. He hasn’t got that.” Meanwhile, UKIP spokesman has confirmed that ‘Mr Blay has been suspended with immediate effect.’
