Three men have been sentenced to a total of 23 years imprisonment at Harrow Crown Court after pleading guilty to a string of armed robberies across north London.

Yousef Koleilat, 22, of The Roundway, N17, Jotkar Hussein, 21, of Maple Close, N16, and Patou Mayamba, 22, of no fixed abode, had previously appeared at the same court on Wednesday, 13 October, in connection with a six-week spree of robberies at the beginning of 2010.

Koleilat, Hussein and Mayamba all pleaded guilty to the same two offences :-

1. Conspiracy to rob, contrary to section 1(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977.

2. Conspiracy to carry a firearm or imitation firearm with criminal intent contrary to section 1(1) of the Criminal Law Act 1977.

The sentencing at Harrow Crown Court on Friday 17 December was as follows :-

Yousef Koleilat: nine years imprisonment.

Patou Mayamba: eight years imprisonment.

Jotkar Hussein: six years imprisonment.

Officers were first alerted to the robberies on 6 March, 2010 when two men entered the William Hill bookmakers along Willoughby Lane, N17. Staff were threatened by the pair but managed to raise the alarm and the armed men left empty-handed.

The following day, on 7 March, two men rushed into a bookmakers on Highgate Hill, N19 and demanded cash. One of the men pointed a handgun at staff and escaped with £786.

A further six robberies and attempted robberies were carried out between 19 March and 14 April, 2010. Despite the threats of violence during each raid, the robbers rarely escaped with any takings and on one occasion made off with just £10.

Detective Constable Paul Harburn, of the Met’s Flying Squad, said: "These men carried out frightening and sustained raids over a two month period. Staff and customers at the targeted premises were left distressed by their actions, especially when they were unable to meet their demands to hand over large amounts of cash. Flying Squad officers were eventually able to track their movements and arrested them. It is thanks to the professionalism of the case put forward that they had no choice but to plead guilty at court."
