Mayor of Calais, Natacha Bouchart, has confirmed that the port of Calais has been reopened as she expressed deep regret over the port been taken “hostage” by striking workers. Consequently, all ferry services across the English Channel are now reopened following a fresh blockade at the Port of Calais.  The blockade had affected many Brits who had planned their journeys for the Bank Holiday. According to operators P&O Ferries and DFDS Seaways, although there services have resumed there might still be some delays.

The port was blocked on Sunday by resentful former staff members of the now dissolved MyFerryLink, who used lifeboats to block ships from docking Passengers at the ports of both Dover and Calais. Consequently, many passengers were left stranded for hours in the sea near the French port. Mayor Bouchart reiterated that she regrets the port being taken “hostage.”

In a tweet published by DFDS Seaways on Monday, it assured that “Calais port has now reopened, normal service has resumed. All services are operating to the advertised scheduled with space available.” Whereas, P&O Ferries mentioned that “Calais port has now re-opened for shipping movements. The Port of Dover is now open again – our services are subject to delays.” One of the stranded passengers from yesterday, Nicholas Bernier, explained the situation and said that “I’m roughly about two miles from the Port of Calais. We’ve got about three ferries standing still in front of us and what we were told is that the port is blocked by two lifeboats.”
