A conman and his weeping wife have been given jail time after they pretended that the man was in a “vegetative state” in order to escape trial for charges of fraud. Wife of 48-year-old Alan Knight, 33-year-old Helen Knight also wrote to PM David Cameron requesting his intervention to stop cops from pursuing fraud charges against her husband because he was quadriplegic and comatose.

However, hospital doctors reported incidents when cups of water at Alan’s bedside “magically disappeared” in the night. Also, they suspected seeing him walking, eating, wiping his face and writing as well. Thereafter, police discovered that Alan had been on family holidays and shopping trips to Tesco during two years when he was supposed to be in a coma. According to some other pictures, he could also be seen by a lake and in an art gallery in Devon.

In his remarks, Prosecutor Jim Davis stated that “the pair went to extraordinary lengths to try to convince doctors Alan Knight was suffering a mystery illness that led to fits and left him frequently comatose or semicomatose,” adding that “the pair went to their MP and the local press to try to back their story that Knight was unfit to stand trial on charges of theft and fraud.” Mr. Davis stressed that “Knight and his wife continued to see various doctors claiming he was housebound, comatose and unable to communicate.” The suspect was avoiding trial for conning a vulnerable elderly neighbour out of his £41,000 savings since he was originally summoned to court in September 2012.
