In hindsight, this is perhaps the way to go.

This kind of sophistry is undesirable and imprudent. Today, the agreement with Japan is caught in an opaque zone of interpretative nuance – about nuclear testing. Now he has reached a stage that he can never get a loan from the Indian Banking system. But SBI has only removed the NPA from the balance sheet- and this is a usual clean up exercise related purely to balance sheets. This does not mean that the “loan is written off” as Mallaya will continue to be liable for the loan as balance sheet is not related to individual Trade Receivables.
