LK AdvaniVarious marginal political groups accorded a hostile welcome to senior BJP leader L.K. Advani’s Jan Chetna Yatra in Punjab on Sunday.

The protesters hurled eggs at his rath and displayed black flags as his cavalcade entered Punjab from the Doomwali barrier in Bathinda district.

They said they were protesting against Advani as he “admittedly supported Operation Bluestar” in his book My Country, My Life.

These protests forced Advani’s convoy to change route to avert more protests in Bathinda.

The convoy was later welcomed by Harsimrat Kaur Badal, MP from Bathinda, besides several BJP leaders including state president Ashwini Sharma and minister, Tikshan Sud. BJP is an alliance partner of the Shiromani Akali Dal (Badal)-led government in the state.

Sources said police took about 100 workers of Shiromani Akali Dal (Amritsar), Akali Dal (Delhi) and some Muslim groups into custody for disrupting the yatra.

Later, addressing a thin gathering, Advani said the BJP would bring back Rs.25 lakh crore of black money, which is stashed away in Swiss banks. He said the UPA had no sanctity to remain in power after the record number of scandals against its ministers had come under judicial scrutiny.
