For a party which is facing the dilemna of choosing between a father and his son to be the face for the CM candidate in the coming Assembly elections, the choice is finally veering around to the tried and tested senior and Punjab CM Parkash Singh Badal.
The issue was being hotly debated within the party for the past few days ever since the senior Badal was reported as saying that he did not want to be the CM anymore after having done the job on four different occasions.
The matter came for discussion in the core committee and the senior leaders then persuaded the party patron to become the CM candidate once again, party sources revealed. His son and party president Sukhbir Badal would have been projected as the CM candidate, in case senior Badal had stuck to his stand of not leading the party anymore. The party is yet to make a final announcement in this regard.
“The senior Badal has the political experience and the foresight to keep the flock together,” observed a senior leader, describing how almost all the senior leaders spoke with one voice asking Parkash Badal to lead the party once again at the meeting, especially in the wake of Sikh clergy bestowing honour on him. “It was a collective choice.”
