Suspected militants made an attempt on the life of Jammu and Kashmir Minister, Ali Muhammad Sagar when he was at a party in an old part of Srinagar. Personal security officer, Gulzar Ahmed had died in the dismissal and three persons who are part of the minister’s establishment got injured. The injured include two policemen.
In the evening, the gunmen approached the house of Sagar’s brother and fired at the conduct. Sagar, who is rural, law and parliamentary minister, was inside the house along with his son, Salman Sagar, former mayor of the Srinagar Municipal Corporation.
“There was an engagement ceremony at the house. Guests including Sagar were present,” said a close family member on ambiguity. The suspected militants fired at the police escort guarding the house and the lane on which the building is located. “We cannot substantiate the number of militants immediately or the weapons used in the firing,” said deputy superintendent of police, Imran Farooq.
A senior police officer has told on ambiguity: “We can confirm the firing. We are investigating who all were involved in the attack.” After 2005, when education minister, Ghulam Nabi Lone was killed, this is the first serious attack on a minister in the state.
In 2002, minister of state for home, Mushtaq Ahmed Lone was killed in a radical attack. In the year 2000, power minister, Ghulam Hasan Bhatt had died at the hands of militants.
