The chairperson of the Congress party, Sonia Gandhi, made an announcement on Wednesday humbly accepting her defeat in the recent elections and declaring that the results of the elections have taught her some valuable lessons.

Speaking to the press in New Delhi she said, “I humbly accept the results of the assembly elections”. She gave her statement after meeting with senior party members regarding election results.

She further added, “There are a number of reasons for our party’s defeat. The bad selection of candidates is one of them. The people of Uttar Pradesh were fed up with the Mayawati government in UP. In Goa, many voters were unhappy with the Congress government. We will have to sit down and look at the situation and the results in every single state and together work out a plan to correct the mistakes we have made.”

She gave several reasons for the bad defeat of her party highlighting that bad candidate selection was definitely one of the main causes. She also said that the increasing inflation rates also made the party unpopular in Goa where voters were obviously not happy with the conditions. Putting the blame on the newly formed PPP, she said that PPP has also somewhat contributed towards their votes being taken away in Punjab.

She said that the Congress will have to work harder in the upcoming elections of Himachal Pradesh, Gujrat, and Karnataka.
