Akhilesh Yadev, the son of Mulayam Singh Yadev and the chairperson of Samajwadi Party in Uttar Pradesh has been declared the new Chief Minister for the state. The decision was taken in the party meeting held on Saturday. SP had won majority in UP with 224 seats.

According to other decisions taken by the party, Azam Khan who is one of Samajwadi Party’s founding members will be working as the speaker of UP assembly, and the seat left by Akilesh will be filled by the ex-opposition leader Shivpal Yadev.

It is also believed that the name of Akhilesh as the CM was initially proposed by Azam Khan when he met Mulayam at his place the day before and convinced him to propose the name of Akhilesh in the next party meeting.

Akhilesh had previously spoken to the media declaring that he wants his father to continue as the CM of the state, as he has done the job thrice before and says has done it quite well. However, his name was proposed in the party meeting by Azam Khan, after which all other party members supported the decision of making Akhilesh the new CM of UP.

Aging 38, Akhilesh Singh Yadev is now the youngest Chief Minister ever to be appointed in UP.
