Railway budget 2012 emphasizes modernization

The Railway budget for 2012 announced by Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday lays stress on the need for modernization of railway and expressed that catering to that need, this year’s budget of railway will invest majority of their funding in improving the infrastructure of railway alongside modernization and safety measurements and better technology for faster trains.

He announced that an investment of Rs. 39, 110 crore with be spared for modernization of the signalling system and another Rs. 4,410 crore for capacity upgradation.

While giving his speech about the budget in the parliament, Trivide stressed that the budget was designed to cater the needs of the common man of India since they are the target market of the Railway. He said that enhanced measures will be taken to ensure safety and appropriate infrastructures for better services to the public.

He said, “India Railways has to be benchmarked with Europe and Japan. My focus will be safe safety, safety, safety. I wow to target zero deaths. I also propose to set up an independent railway safety authority, as recommended by an expert group headed by the former Atomic Energy Commission chairman Anil Kakodkar.”

Informing the members of the parliament he further said that there is a lot more need for faster trains in India and informed that another 725 km of rail tracks will be finished this year.
