Prime Minister Manmohan Singh made the announcement on Monday that he has accepted the resignation of Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi.

Dinesh Trivedi faced serious criticism from his own party members, Trinamool Congress Party who asked the minister to resign immediately after the gave the budget for railway for the upcoming fiscal year and demanded an increase in train fares. Trivedi had refused to give into the bullying of his party and stated before the media that he will quit only if the PM asks him for the resignation, which Manmohan Singh had to due to the pressure by the chief of Trinamool Congress Party.

The PM expressed grief and regret over accepting the resignation of Trivedi and said that the minister had only submitted a budget proposal to the parliament keeping the vision of Mamata Banerjee in mind.

Singh said, “I received late last night an email message followed by a formal letter from Dinesh Trivedi tendering his resignation as railway minister”, speaking at the session of Lok Sabha on Monday. Adding further, he also announced that as per his duty he will forward the resignation to the President with the recommendation of approving the resignation, and updates on electing a new railway minister will be given soon.

He ended his statement saying, “I regret the departure of Shri Trivedi”
