Olympic medalist Vijender Singh is likely to be probed in connection with a drug bust worth Rs 130 cr. Police found heroine in an apartment and a vehicle parked outside, which allegedly belongs to the boxer’s wife. Vijendar claims he was out of town for the weekend and knows nothing about the drugs.

“We will summon Vijender for questioning,” Fatehgarh Sahib SSP Hardyal Singh Mann said.

According to Punjab Police, Vijender will be probed either at the Haryana Police headquarters in Panchkula or the Punjab Police headquarters in Chandigarh. Allegedly, the interrogation would occur in the next 72 hours.

Vijender is believed to have links with NRI Anoop Singh Kahlon, who was also arrested in connection with the heroin haul. Boxer Ram Singh, a close associate of Vijender Singh, is also involved in the case. Ram has confessed taking drugs with Vijender and has been expelled from NIS Patiala after the confession.

“We have got orders to expel Ram Singh from Monday. He was the 51st member of the boxing camp and we had given him special permission on the recommendation of Vijender Singh. Now, after he has admitted to taking drugs, we have taken the decision after consulting higher officials and coaches. We will also conduct a check of the premises,” said NIS director L S Ranawat. He added that the National Anti-Doping Agency (NADA) is expected to conduct dope tests at NIS.

On Saturday, Ram Singh told the police that he along with Vijender took drugs from dealer Anoop Singh Kahlon but later altered his statement to say that both he and Vijender took the drug on the mistaken belief that it was a food supplement.
