Bharatiya Janata Party remains indecisive about when to announce Narendra Modi as its prime ministerial candidate for 2014 polls. BJP President Rajnath Singh has dismissed all reports about any divisions in the party and says the decision will be announced very soon.

Gujarat CM Modi has faced evident opposition from political veteran L K Advani who even resigned from all party posts for one day after BJP decided to promote Modi as its prime ministerial candidate. Advani is BJP’s most senior and experience leader who has spent a considerable part of his life in the political world. On technical grounds, he could have been expecting the party members to put him up as their next prime ministerial candidate.

Rajnath and Advani met to discuss the matter again today. Advani is of the opinion that promoting Modi as the BJP’s prime ministerial candidate right from the start of election campaigns can result in another defeat for the party. Advani and a few other party members want to wait for election results before making any bold announcements.

On the other hand, Rashtriya Swayamsewak Sangh or RSS, strongly encourages the announcement and believes that it is high time to take Modi’s surging popularity among party workers to potential voters. RSS wants Modi’s candidature to be announced without any further delay. BJP’s top 12 leaders or parliamentary board will vote on the matter to come to a conclusion.
