The 15th Prime Minister of India, Narendra Modi, took his oath this Monday, promising the nation a stronger and more developed India. The cabinet or the council of members compromising of forty five people also took their oath after Modi.

The oath taking ceremony which was being held out in the open at the Rashtrapati Bhavan was a sight to watch, compromising of all the Who’s Who of India, be they from the field of politics, cricket, film industry or business tycoons. The ceremony was also attended by the countries belonging to SAARC which includes Pakistan Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai and Sri Lankan President Mahinda Rajapaksa as well as the Mauritius Prime Minister Navinchandra Ramgoolam, Nepal Prime Minister Sushil Koirala, Prime Minister Tshering Tobgay of Bhutan and Bangladesh parliament Speaker Shirin Sharmin Chaudhury. The Pakistan Prime Minister was seated with the former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh was among the four thousand people witnessing the oath taking ceremony.

Narendra Modi’s 92 year old mother watched her son take the oath on her small TV screen in her house in Gandhinagar, completely unimpressed by the gathering at the Rashtrapati Bhavan or the line of reporters outside her house. After the ceremony ended, Modi headed for the banquet dinner set for the SAARC leaders. President Obama also congratulated after his oath taking. “US President Barack Obama today congratulated Narendra Modi on being sworn-in as India’s 15th Prime Minister and said he looks forward to working with the new leader to strengthen the strategic partnership. “President Obama congratulates Prime Minister Narendra Modi of India and the new Indian government on their swearing-in today,” White House Press Secretary Jay Carney said.
