The union rural development minister Gopinath Munde, 64, this Tuesday died of multiple internal injuries after a road accident in the central Delhi early this morning. The 32 year old driver of the car that hit Munde’s car at Prithviraj Road-Tughlak Road intersection was allegedly speeding and had jumped the red light, according to police.

“An FIR has been registered against Gurvinder Singh under section 279 (rash and negligent driving) and 304(A)(causing death by negligence) at Tughlak Road Police Station and he was arrested after prima facie he was found at fault of jumping the red light and over speeding,” said the Additional Commissioner of Police, SBS Tyagi. Politicians all over India are shocked after Munde’s death, the minister who made his debut at the Union Cabinet last week. The new Prime Minister tweeted, “Extremely saddened & shocked by the demise of my friend & colleague Gopinath Munde ji. His demise is a major loss for the Nation & the Govt. Gopinath Munde ji was a true mass leader. Hailing from backward sections of society, he rose to great heights & tirelessly served people. My tributes to a dynamic leader whose premature demise leaves a void hard to fill. Condolences to Munde ji’s family. We stand by them in this hour of grief.”

Other politicians who tweeted their condolences included, Digvijaya Singh, General Secretary of All India Congress Committee, Gujrat CM Anandiben Patel, Madhya Pradesh CM Shivraj Singh Chouhan, Union Minister of External Affairs and senior BJP leader Sushma Swaraj and many more. Lalu Prasad Yadav tweeted, “Sudden demise of Sh. Mundeji has shocked & saddened me nd my party. In him I hv personally lost a friend who always believed in the empowerment of the poor & the deprived communities. I pray to God that His family gets immense power to overcome this irreparable grief.”
