A 29 year old man from Manipur was attacked yesterday and beaten to death last night in the capital city of New Delhi. Shaloni was returning from his friends place when he was attacked by 5-6 men and beaten badly. When the police was informed about the quarrel at about 2:30 am in the morning, they reached the site and found Shaloni badly beaten. He was taken to the trauma centre at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences or AIIMS, where the Manipuri man succumbed to his death.

“We have registered a case and investigation has been taken up. He was attacked by 5-6 men. There was no provocation from the part of the deceased,” said Deputy Commissioner of Police (South) B S Jaiswal, “We are trying to identify the attackers and the exact sequence of events.” Shaloni lived in the Munirka area and used to work at a Business Processing Outsourcing company or BPO but was currently unemployed. “It seems like a preplanned and unprovoked attack. Home Ministry will probe into the death,” says Minister of State for Home Kiren Rijiju.

The death of Nido Tania, a student from Arunachal Pradesh, was also because of similar reason. His death in January had led to nation-wide street protests and debates on discrimination against Indians from the North East. Nido, 20, was badly beaten with iron rods and sticks by a group of men after he had a disagreement with a shopkeeper and others in Lajpat Nagar market. Politicians all over the country had at that time highly condemned his death and promised to work with activists as well as students from the North East.
