The Supreme Court this Thursday morning is expected to hear a petition filed by the Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi, which challenges the Prime Minister Narendra Modi government’s decision of removing him from the Constitutional post.

This petition was filed by Qureshi this Wednesday and the Chief Justice of India, RM Lodha, is expected to hear the case. Queshi has contended in his petition that no one other than the President of India can ask him to quit his post. He further cited an apex court ruling that said that the Governor is not an employee of the central government. Many Governors appointed during the Congress-led UPA rule had quit after the BJP-led NDA came to power this 16th of May. Governors of Goa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh, Uttar Pradesh and Haryana had to resign when the Bharatiya Janata Party led NDA took control over the central government.

In result the BJP-led NDA government chose their own governors and so Ram Naik was appointed as UP Governor, Om Prakash Kohli, Keshari Nath Tripathi, Balram Das, and Kaptan Singh Solanki were sworn-in as Goa, West Bengal, Chhattisgarh and Haryana Governors respectively.
