BJP MP of Pilibhit and son of  Maneka and late Sanjay Gandhi ,Varun Gandhi may not have inherited the political legacy of his Gandhi-Nehru family, but his Bengali bride, Yamini Roy, will get married in a pink and gold brocade Benarasi sari that belonged to his grandmother, Indira Gandhi, on March 6. It was gift from the late Prime Minister to her daughter-in-law, Maneka, when she married her younger son Sanjay.
For the grand reception in the Capital on March 8, Yamini will be clad in a 100-year-old Benarasi, woven in orange and gold that belonged to Varun’s great grandmother, Kamala Nehru. She will also wear mostly heirloom jewellery from both sides of the family.

Varun, himself will wear a dhoti and kurta, in white and gold, for the simple but traditional Hindu wedding ceremony at the Kanchi Shankarachaya’s temple on Hanuman Ghat in Varanasi. The Shankaracharya himself will preside over the wedding ceremony that will take place in the morning. Thereafter, the couple — along with their close family members — will return to Delhi by a private aircraft.

Since both Varun and Maneka are BJP MPs from Uttar Pradesh’s Pilibhit and Aonla, respectively, it was decided that the wedding will be held in the state. Except for a handful of relatives, the erstwhile "Rajas" of princely states, which are now part of UP, will grace the occasion. The "Rajas" of Kashi, Bansi, Padrauna, Bijnaur, Mankapur, Bhinga and Ayodhya, who now represent different political parties in the state, will attend the function.

The couple will also visit Yamini’s ancestral house in Kolkata to seek the blessings of the family deity and relatives.

At the couple’s Delhi reception for a select 1,200 people, Puneet Sikand has designed a pan-Indian menu. The fare includes some of the choicest vegetarian dishes from Kashmir, Bengal, Awadh (UP), Rajasthan, Punjab, Gujarat, Andhra Pradesh, Kerala, Tamil Nadu, Karnataka.

In April, the couple will take a two-week break to honeymoon in the scenic Amalfi coast in southern Italy.
