unrest continues in j&k ahead of eid, 7 militants, 1 youth killedReports have confirmed that over seven militants and a policeman were killed in two separate events on Sunday in Baramulla and Poonch districts of Jammu and Kashmir. The outbreak among the local community after the death of Burhan Wani has risen the civilian death toll in the Valley up to 78 as another youth succumbed to injuries today. Overall in the total 65 days of the unrest, more than 120 injured protestors were injured in mass rallies.

Another youth, Javaid Ahmad Dar, died in a Srinagar hospital on Sunday after being hit with bullets during clashes in central Kashmir’s Budgam district recently. Meanwhile, Home Minister Rajnath Singh reviewed the situation in the Kashmir Valley in a high level meeting at his Ashoka Road residence on Sunday evening. The meeting was attended by National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, Home Secretary Rajiv Mehrishi and Intelligence Bureau chief Dineshwar Sharma. The officials concluded to redeploy security forces and enforce Section 144 in rural areas, i.e. the flashpoint of protests, ahead of Bakr-Eid on Tuesday. However, the curfew has been lifted in other parts of the Valley.

On the other hand, army officers confirmed to have spotted a group of militants in Baramulla district’s Nowgam Sector at around 2.30 a.m. today. The forces entered in an exchange of fire that continued till 10 a.m. Army spokesman Colonel Manish Kumar mentioned in a statement issued from Srinagar that “four militants were killed as the Army foiled an infiltration bid in Nowgam Sector. Four AK-47 rifles and war-like stores have been recovered. The operation is on.”
