Unidentified persons have thrown grenades at a CRPF convoy in the Shopian district of Jammu and Kashmir causing injuries to three Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) soldiers and five civilians on Tuesday.
Earlier on Monday, another soldier was injured in the exchange of fire between security forces and militants holed up inside a government building in Pampore, i.e. the same building where a suicide attack took place in February this year. The operation to attain control of the buildings and flush out the militants has entered its second day on Tuesday, even as security forces launched a fresh offensive against the militants. According to an army official, the areas around the vicinity of the Entrepreneurship Development Institute (EDI) have been cordoned off due to continuous exchange of fire. It was mentioned that “security forces have launched a fresh offensive this morning to flush-out the militants.”
Whereas the curfew in the interior areas of Srinagar continued on Tuesday as a precautionary measure to maintain law and order in view of the fourth day of mourning a young boy, who was hit by pellets during a protest. 12-year-old Junaid Akhoon was hit by pellets at Saidapora and later succumbed to injuries at SKIMS Hospital at Soura. He was buried on Saturday. The curfew is in place at the areas under five police station of the city including Nowhatta, Khanyar, Rainawari, Safakadal and Maharaj Gunj.
