The Muslim faith may be starting Ramadan, its holiest of months; however the country of Syria has started its most brutal bloodiest massacres of its citizens since protests began four and a half months ago. News outlets are reporting that President Bashar al-Assad has decided to follow in his father’s footsteps by sending in tanks to crush the uprising in the central city of Hama. Hama was the scene of a notorious massacre in 1982 when the Ba’ath regime crushed an Islamist uprising that challenged the rule of the president’s father, Hafez al-Assad. At least 10,000 were killed then.

Today, Sunday, July 31, 2011, supposedly over 150 people have been killed. While international media may be banned from Syria, amateur journalists are ensuring the word is getting out by posting videos on YouTube of the scale and the brutality of the government’s offensive. (see videos at end of article) Residents have reported that bodies are lying in the streets as government troops shoot at citizens with heavy machine guns and tanks. Electricity and water has been cut off, a tactic regularly used by the Syrian military when storming towns to crush revolt. However, in a scene similar to other uprisings, Al-Arabiya TV reported that some soldiers had refused to shoot at protesters and had apparently joined them. But unlike uprisings such as Libya, Syria has not yet seen any high-level defections from the military which would weaken and potentially topple Assad.

The Guardian wrote: An activist group, Avaaz, said last week Syrian forces had killed 1,634 people in the course of their crackdown during four and a half months of protest, while at least 2,918 had disappeared. A further 26,000 had been arrested, many of them beaten and tortured, and 12,617 remained in detention, it said.

But locals say at least 95 people have been killed and scores more injured. Across the country, its claimed 121 people have died in this latest action. After Hama, the biggest toll is in Deir Essor where 19 are believed to have died.

Dictator Tanks Assault Syria City – Hama – Hundreds feared dead 7-31-11

Hama City was invaded this morning by the alawite Armies of Syrian military dictator Bashar Assad. This is a video of some of the Dictator’s tanks blasting away at people and buildings from Sabahi Square in the City. The dead and wounded are piling up in the streets and hospitals of the City as over 65 known bodies of Hama residents killed by the Army were pulled off of the streets in just the first few hours of the assault. Whole apartment Buildings are being hit with tank and artillery fire and hundreds of people could be dead and buried in their destroyed and collapsed homes. The world is doing nothing and is averting its eyes as Hama faces the wrath of a violent bloodthirsty racist and genocidal shiite alawite full scale military attack on an unarmed city, with the help of Hezbollah and Iranian military forces who are assisting Bashar Assad to crush the pro Democracy movement in its stronghold city.
