Officials have confirmed that the pilot aboard one of the Pakistan Air Force (PAF) Mirage airplanes was killed on Tuesday as his jet crashed near Karachi’s Musharraf Colony. Reports claim that Squadron leader Baqir Ali flew PAF Mirage jetbearing tale number 921 from Masroor Base. The plane crashed near Musharraf Colony and even though the pilot had ejected himself before the crash, he died on the spot.
Senior Superintendent Police of the city mentioned in a statement that “a Mirage plane crashed near Musharraf colony.” Meanwhile, PAF spokesperson issued an official statement saying that “the pilot ejected from the aircraft and sustained fatal injuries,” adding that even though the pilot did not survive himself he “succeeded in saving precious lives on ground.” Furthermore, the statement revealed that “no loss of civilian life or property has been reported. A board of inquiry has been ordered by Air Headquarters to determine the cause of the accident.”
Earlier, another PAF pilot lost his life as his fighter jet crashed in Jamrud, Khyber Agency last month. At the time, the Inter-Services Public Relations mentioned in a statement that “the pilot of the aircraft Flt Lt Omer Shazad sustained fatal injuries” while the PAF aircraft was on a routine operational training mission. According the released later, the aircraft crashed due to a technical fault. A senior official of the political administration confirmed thereafter that “a team of Swat scouts and Levis officials have been sent to the site of the incident.”
