The Indian delegation for the international conference on transfer of technology, the Asian and Pacific Centre for Transfer of Technology (APCTT) being hosted by Pakistan, has revealed that they would not be participating this year. According to the Pakistan’s Ministry of Science and Technology, New Delhi had initially confirmed that they would participate in the three-day session of the Governing Council of a UN affiliated institute that promotes transfer of technology from small and medium sized enterprises in the Asia-Pacific region. The conference is underway in Islamabad since Monday.

A ministry official told the media that “just hours before the meeting was to start, the Indian delegation cancelled its trip saying their head delegate had contracted food poisoning.” In addition to India, Bangladesh and Iran were the other countries that failed participate in the conference. However, all other participants of the conference including China, Fiji, Indonesia, Malaysia, Pakistan, Philippines, Samoa, South Korea, Sri Lanka, Thailand and Vietnam are attended the meeting.

The council meets once a year and advises on the future and reviews the working of the centre located in India under the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESACAP). The meeting held in Islamabad is meant to approve projects to be undertaken in 2017. Earlier, India had refused to participate in the South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) to be held in Islamabad in November so the event had to be cancelled.
