Chairman of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI), Imran Khan, participated in the groundbreaking of his charity-based iconic hospital, Shaukat Khanum Memorial Cancer Hospital (SKMCH), in Karachi today. Mr. Khan arrived in Karachi on a three-day visit on Thursday. The Karachi branch of the hospital will be the third of its kind in the country.

Addressing the audience at the ceremony, Khan mentioned that “it was not an easy task to arrange Rs700 million for the cancer hospitals and I had never thought that this journey to establish the cancer hospitals would be so difficult.” Nine-year-old paediatric patient from Jamshoro, Waleed Ahmed, laid down the foundation stone of the project as Imran expressed his gratitude to the people of Karachi for generously donating money to the hospital. He alleged that “the SKMC hospitals are treating 75 per cent of the patients free of cost.”

The third SKMCH and Research Centre will be built in Defence Housing Authority (DHA) City of Karachi under the organization of the Shaukat Khanum Memorial Trust. During his Karachi tour, Khan is also anticipated to visit the house of late religious scholar, Junaid Jamshed, who lost his life in the PK-661 crash earlier this month. He plans to chair a party’s session on Friday in addition to other meetings arranged with lawyers, labourers and local elected councillors. Additionally, Khan will address the Professional Forum and Workers Convention and visit Bohra Mosque and Chamber of Commerce. Khan plans to leave for Islamabad on Saturday.
