The home department and the police were ordered on Tuesday by the Sindh High Court to ensure security for a lawyer, mainly representing the victims` relatives in missing persons` cases.
A division bench headed by Chief Justice Mushir Alam issued notices to the respondents and the provincial chief law officer after a preliminarily hearing. The bench directed its office to set next hearing immediately after Eid-ul-Azha.
Advocate Rehman has been appearing for the defence of scores of accused allegedly belonging to different proscribed religious and sectarian outfits in courts.
The petitioner lawyer submitted in his petition that he was running an NGO, World Reform Commission, which provided legal aid to poor litigants.
He stated in the petition that he was representing defendants in a number of high-profile cases in the trial courts and in the high court.
The petitioner said he was being threatened of dire consequences for pursuing the cases of missing persons.
He said he was being intimidated, harassed and threatened to desist from pursuing the cases of the missing persons.
He said that he was being chased by unknown people on his way to office from home and from office to the courts
