2500 Employees of City Gov SACKEDThe city district government Karachi on Wednesday laid off around 2,500 employees with immediate effect after ‘a racket of illegal and bogus appointments’ was unearthed.

Those whose appointments have been cancelled were appointed on or after Jan 1, 2011 in grades from BPS-1 to 15.

These employees were posted in almost all departments of the CDGK but most of them were working in the city government’s education department, followed by municipal services, health, works and services and parks and horticultural departments.

Moreover, all postings of the employees of different town municipal administrations (TMAs) and union councils administrations (UCAs) in the CDGK and its subordinate departments made since Jan 1, 2011 have also been cancelled and they have been repatriated to their parent local government institutions with immediate effect.

The administrator of Karachi, Mohammad Hussain Syed, told Dawn that all officials allegedly involved in the illegal appointments in the city government had already been removed from their posts and an inquiry had been ordered against them.

Those officials include CDGK human resources management executive director Abdul Rehman Rajput, district officer (payroll) Ehtesham Kamali and district officer (internal audit) Imran.

He said that among those whose appointments had been cancelled might include around 150 genuine appointments while there was no record of about 2,000 employees appointed in the CDGK since Jan 1, 2011 with the signature of the HRM’s executive director and it had to be ascertained if the signatures were fake or genuine.
