Violence in Quetta, 9 killed

A total of nine individuals have been declared dead by the authorities in three different riots in Quetta on Saturday. Another eight have been reported seriously injured while the dead include a majority of men from one the minority communities in the region, Shia Hazara.

The first of the three violence reports to be filed was from Brewery road where reportedly a gang of gunmen roaming around the street captured a taxi filled with the minority section members and killed all six of them. Eyewitnesses report that the murderers ran off in no time and no identity or clues could be found by the police. The second sectarian violence incident took place at Sabzal road where another gang of gunmen opened fire randomly killing one of the Shia Hazara individuals on spot whereas another was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. The third incident which took place took the life of a policeman took place in the area of Shalkot which is in the outskirts of the central Quetta city.

The city of Quetta has experience some high level violence since the entire past week where most of the targets were Shia Hazara community members. Violence incidents have led to several commercial areas being shut down and closing of schools affecting the daily routine of residents of the city.
