Violent protest against persistent loadshedding in Punjab

The unannounced power cuts in Punjab and Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa made the enraged residents more frustrated. These residents violently protested against persistent load-shedding that continued in several cities in Punjab while factory owners reached Mepco’s office.

The protest took place in Faisalabad, where Samundri Road was blocked by the demonstrators and main intersection in the Gojra and Mandi Bahauddin was also blocked by the protestors.

In Sargodha, they damaged the WAPDA office where police were called to control the situation and disperse the crowd that was gathered.

In addition to that, the protestors blocked the Lahore-Islamabad motorway in Chakwal by burning flags of a political party and slogans were chanted against the Pakistani government.

A large group of students also participated in the protest against electricity outages in the Lower Dir of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while

blocking the Dir-Afghanistan highway. The angry citizens even fired up the city police station gate and police motorcycles in Chichawatni.

Police and other law enforcement agencies did not take actions against the protestors when they ransacked the public and private property but when they attacked an MNA’s house, the police arrested 10 persons who were allegedly involved in the violence and then filed case against 1200 protestors.

Women and children threw stones at Sardar Hamid Yar Haraj, the residence of chairman of Pakistan’s Earthquake Reconstruction Committee in Khanewal at Civil Line. The traffic was blocked by burning tyres on the roads including Lal Masjid Chowk, Farooq-i-Azam Chowk, Kot Aala Singh Chowk.
