Pakistan Peoples Party Parliamentarian (PPP-P) and the notorious Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) are likely to follow the tradition and form alliance in Sindh. Senior politicians from both parties have begun to negotiate their terms and sketch the plan.

The PPP formally invited the MQM to renew their alliance on Friday. Makhdoom Amin Fahim, Khursheed Shah and Qaim Ali Shah will discuss and form a strategic power sharing agreement for both parties.

Although the PPP-P will not be forming the federal government, it has managed to retain its position as the largest party in Sindh. It is expected that the top leadership will come to a conclusion following President Asif Ali Zardari’s arrival in Karachi this week.

“The PPP will retain around a dozen portfolios but will allocate six to seven ministries to the MQM,” said a senior PPP leader.

On the other hand, MQM leader Wasim Aftab alleged that his party has not received any invitation from the PPP and it would be premature to comment whether they are going to join the coalition government. On the contrary, PPP-P chief Makhdoom Amin Fahim told the media that his party had invited the MQM to join the new provincial set-up.

“Both the PPP and the MQM have delivered in the past five years and that is why the people have given them a mandate. We have worked in a friendly environment and will continue to do so for the next five years,” he said.
