The Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) this Wednesday made demands for a ceasefire so that the peace talks with the Government can be continued. They are making demands days after killing 23 security personnel who had been captured by the Taliban in 2010. The TTP spokesperson Shahidullah Shahid said that the dumping of bodies of the Taliban members should be immediately stopped if they wanted to continue negotiations with the TTP.

‘Our fighters are being targeted, arrested and killed in fake police encounters. The government’s negotiations team should ensure our committee that this would immediately stop,’ said Shahid. The TTP spokesperson further added that a ceasefire would only be implemented if the government is able to provide assurances to the Taliban that their demands will be met by the Federal Government. The peace talks to end more than ten years of violence faced a sharp deadlock after the TTP last Sunday killed the FC security personnel. The group further claimed that it killed the security personnel only to take revenge for what it called ‘extra-judicial killing’ of its murderous Talibans. On the other hand Information Minister Perveiz Rasheed questioned the Talibans Sharia while speaking to the media representatives. He openly criticized the TTP leadership for the inhuman murders of the captive Frontier Cops (FC) soldiers.

‘People favouring enforcement of Sharia should tell what treatment captives deserve according to the Sharia …… and the treatment those (FC men) received was in accordance with the Islamic laws or not,’ he questioned showing his grief over the news. The minister said that the TTP’s spokesman Shahidullah Shahid should have clearly conveyed their reservations to their negotiating team formed by them. ‘But, they didn’t do it and firstly attacked policemen in Karachi and then killed FC personnel,’ he said.
