A nomination list of 22 parliamentarians for the electoral reform committee asked by the opposition has been finalized this Saturday. The list has been passed on to the Speaker of National Assembly, Ayaz Sadiq. The list will give the nominations selected by the four major political parties.

According to Dawn News, the procedure to make committee includes a total number of 33 members which will include representatives from the opposition and the government. Leaders from the ruling party, Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) and the opposition parties were expected to finalize the list, which will consist of 11 members of the Senate and 22 members of the lower house. The Pakistan People’s Party nominated a total number of four members which included two in the NA and two in the Senate. The Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) and Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) have nominated three MNAs each. The government has nominated a total of seven members for the committee, with three from the NA and the remainder from the Senate.

A letter has also been written to the chairman of the Senate with a notification to submit the 11 names by the 24th of July. Earlier this Thursday, the government and the opposition had agreed on a procedure to constitute the committee. The committee will be working on considering and presenting recommendations to ensure free, fair and transparent elections in Pakistan, amend constitutional provisions relating to caretaker governments and the adoption of the latest technology currently available for holding elections.
