The former chief justice of Pakistan, Iftikhar Chaudary has sent a defamation notice to the Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan this Thursday. The notice of Rs15 billion is sent by Chaudary for leveling ‘baseless’ allegations against him regarding the 2013 general elections and poll rigging.

In the notice, which was read out loud to the media persons by his legal team during a press conference this Thursday outside the Supreme Court premises, the former chief justice has stated that after his retirement, the popular politician Khan has repeatedly accused him of playing a part in the 2013 rigging conspiracy without much evidence and therefore the ex-judge has decided to take a legal action in his defence. Iftikhar Chaudary has asked the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf leader to apologize him within fifteen days for conducting his ‘character assassination’ and take back all his allegations against him. They added legal proceedings would be initiated against the PTI chief if he failed to apologize for the allegations within the time period mentioned.

Imran Khan had started accusing the Supreme Court ex-judge soon after the elections when the picture became clearer and the role of Iftikhar Chaudary, the caretaker government and a media house in poll rigging during the general elections could be identified. Earlier the former judge’s son, Arsalan Iftikhar had also announced to file reference for the disqualification of Imran Khan from the parliament on the basis that he did not fulfill the criteria for an elected leader according to the Articles 62 and 63 of Constitution.
