Above 80 people faced their death in rain-related incidents all over Punjab since last night. The three day rain has flooded terrains, roads and houses. It left no area without leaving its mark. Fifteen deaths were reported from Lahore and a total of seven from the districts of Sialkot and Gujranwala due to rooftop collapses according to police and rescue officers. The Pakistan military was also called to help in rescue operations during the flash floods after the monsoon rains.

The Pakistan Meteorological Department warned that all rivers in Punjab would likely be in “very high” to “exceptionally high” flood from September 5 till September 7. The Chief Meteorologist Muhammad Riaz said the rainfall is likely to continue for next 24 hours and rain is likely to trigger high flooding in Jhelum and Sutlej rivers of Punjab. The PMD has also forecasted rain in Sindh, Kashmir and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. The Chief Minister of Punjab Shahbaz Sharif has expressed grief over the deaths according to the Nation.

The Prime Minister had also summoned an emergency meeting this Friday as the causalities increased in number. The Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Nawaz Shareef, directed all parliamentarians as well as federal and provincial ministers to reach the effected constituencies across the country. The rain over the next 72 hours could cause disastrous floods in Pakistan.
