This Saturday evening, the Interior Minister of Pakistan, Chaudhry Nisar Ali Khan, tried to justify the arrest of all Pakistan Awami Tehreek (PAT) and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaaf (PTI) workers saying that the people who have been arrested are all those who tried to get inside the state institutions like Pakistan Television (PTV) Headquarters. He said this while addressing a press conference in Islamabad and said that PTI and PAT had disowned the workers who had entered PTV headquarters and thus should not cry over the matter of their workers being arrested during the police crackdown and investigation.

“If they are not their people, why are they making all this hue and cry then? It is possible that a wrong person got arrested but we have photographs of the attackers. I assure that each attacker will be identified with the help of images and I want to engage PTI and PAT in this activity too. I invite both the parties to present their record. No wrong person will be touched,” said Nisar, in hopes of trying to clarify the position of the government. “Demands can only be met on table, not roads,” said the Minister in hopes of trying to start the talks again.

“As many as 20 people have been identified while seven of them have been arrested,” said Nisar, adding that the people were arrested while entering or exiting the sit-ins and four were arrested from Lahore while others from Islamabad and other places of Punjab. “It was an attack on a state institution. Eight expensive cameras were snatched and each was at least worth 7 to 8 lakh rupees.”
