A devastating suicide attack took place yesterday night in Lahore which killed and injured dozens. The attack was near the entrance of the Wagah Border parade area where people were leaving after the flag lowering ceremony, a ceremony that takes place every day. More than 60 people were killed in the attack which included ten women and seven children whereas more than hundred were injured.

The explosion was massive and the sound was heard in areas kilometers away from the border as the young suicide attacker blew himself. The dead bodies and the injured were taken to the nearby Ghurki Trust Hospital but later the dead bodies were shifted to Mayo Hospital whereas the critically injured people were shifted to General Hospital according to Dawn News. “We received a total 111, including 50 bodies and 61 injured. Of the 61, we referred 16 critically injured to General Hospital, admitted 31 at our own hospital and discharged 14 after giving them first aid,” Dr Tayyab, a duty doctor at Ghurki Hospital, told the Dawn.

Rangers informed that the flag lowering ceremony gathered a huge crowd everyday but the number increased on the weekends and thus about 8000 people might be present at the site at the time of the attack. The visitors were mainly from Lahore but this time the casualty list also included names from Karachi, Kyhber Pakhtunkhwa and other parts of Punjab.
