Pakistan’s Maritime Security Agency (MSA) Thursday night arrested at least 61 Indian fishermen who had strayed into Pakistan’s territorial waters. The Maritime Security Agency (MSA) informed that the fishermen were arrested in the small hours. The eleven boats of the fishermen were also seized. He further informed that the fishermen were fishing illegally in the water body that belonged to Pakistan.

“We arrested the fisherman from the neighboring country late Thursday night after they violated our territorial limits, fishing illegally into Pakistani waters,” an MSA spokesman was quoted by Samaa. The arrested fishermen were transferred to Docks police station of Karachi during the early hours of Friday. The Karachi police have registered a case against those fishermen for entering Pakistan illegally. The Indian fishermen have said they entered Pakistani waters unintentionally while fishing in deep sea. They further requested the Pakistani government for their release on humanitarian grounds.

They also asked the Indian government to release Pakistani fishermen who had been arrested on the same grounds. Ary News informed that the maritime security official confirmed that the fishermen were handed to the Docks police, who are set to prepare cases against them that could result in their being sent to jail.
