This Sunday the Prime Minister of Pakistan, Mian Nawaz Sharif ordered a probe into the ongoing petrol shortage that has occurred in the province of Punjab. The major cities of Punjab which included Lahore, Gujranwala and Faislabad are experiencing a practical shutdown with hardly any petrol for people to go to schools, markets and offices.
The Pak Tribune informs that the PM has ordered an inquiry that will probe the role of the Ministry of Petroleum, Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA), Pakistan State Oil (PSO), Finance and Water and Power Ministries, as well as oil marketing companies (OMCs) in the acute fuel shortage. Due to the petrol shortage the Prime Minister has already fired four workers whereas the Minister for Petroleum calls the problem a ‘small problem’. A high-level meeting will be held under the Prime Minister today to take important decisions regarding the petrol crisis.
It is also said by local channels that the fuel shortage could also lead to an electricity breakdown in the country. The CNG stations in the country have also been close for a while now which lead to the misery of the people of Pakistan. The petrol stations which are providing petrol in small amounts to every customer are filled with long queues of not only men but also women. The stations are filled people who are fighting to get their hands on the petrol.
