police to include mufti qavi in qandeel baloch’s murder investigationAfter being heavily criticized for appearing in seemingly inappropriate “selfie” photographs with murdered social media celebrity Qandeel Baloch, Mufti Abdul Qavi has now been included in the ongoing investigated into the latter’s killing. According to Multan Police, Qandeel’s brother, Muhammad Waseem, drugged his sister and strangled her because she had violated their family’s honour with her social media posts, including a series of selfies with Abdul Qavi last month.

Mr. Qavi was suspended from the Ruet-e-Hilal Committee after the photographs were published earlier this month. Multan police chief, Azhar Ikram, confirmed that Mr Qavi is now part of their investigation into her murder because “we have decided to widen the scope of the investigation and include Mufti Abdul Qavi in the probe.” However, Qavi has openly denied any involvement in Qandeel’s murder and, in fact, he told the press on Monday that he would present himself to police for questioning if summoned. Earlier on Saturday, Qavi stated that Qandeel’s death should serve as an example for others who tried to malign the clergy, though he also stated that he had “forgiven her”.

Qandeel’s father, Muhammad Azeem, had filed a police report against both his sons, alleging Aslam had encouraged Waseem to carry out the killing. Qandeel built a modelling career on the back of her social media fame and was the family breadwinner. “She was my son, not a daughter. I have lost my son,” her father said. “She supported all of us, including my son who killed her.”
