15 dead after rainfall in karachi causes problemsRainfall in Karachi has brought many problems for the residents as water collected in several localities has still not been drained by the administration as of Sunday evening. Reports confirm that rain water is accumulated in the areas of Gulshan Iqbal, Sarjani, Kharadar, Mehmoodabad, Maleer and Hyderi. Additionally, inefficient drainage arrangements have caused several underpasses to be filled with water and ultimately affected the traffic routine. Traffic jams were witnessed in different localities after the downpour.

Moreover, the rain water also entered in the houses of some areas and forced the residents to evacuate their homes. Meanwhile, power was cut in many areas through the night even though K-Electric claims that at least 90 percent of the power has been restored. According to the K-electric authorities, over 350 power feeders have been restored but residents in different localities said that the areas were still blacked-out. Reports claim that the areas still without power supply include FB Area, Defence, North Karachi, Surjani Town, Orangi and Gulistan Johar among others.

Due to various problems caused by the rainfall, almost 13 people had reportedly lost their lives until Saturday. One resident from Chishti Nagar of Orangi Town, Haider Ali, was electrocuted. Whereas others including a resident from Kala Board in Malir area, 17-year-old Salman, two in Khada Market of Lyari and New Karachi’s Allah Wali Chowrangi, 25-year-old Abbas in Gulistan Johar’s Qalandria Para, 18-year-old Faisal in Korangi Number Four and 25-year-old Inayat in Hussainabad and another local lost their lives.
