California’s City of Madera proclaims October 25 as “Rajan Zed Day”

City of Madera, located near the geographic center of California (USA), has proclaimed October 25, 2012 as “Rajan Zed Day”.

Rajan Zed is a global Hindu and interfaith statesman, who besides taking up the cause of religion worldwide, has also raised huge voice against the apartheid faced by about 15-million Roma (Gypsies) in Europe.

Madera Mayor Brett Frazier, in a signed proclamation, wrote: “City of Madera acknowledges Rajan Zed’s initiative to bring various religious communities together throughout the world so that they can live in peace and mutual trust, and enrich themselves through dialogue.”

“City of Madera further acknowledges Rajan Zed for his leadership role in attempting to help the helpless”, proclamation pointed out.

It recognized “Rajan Zed’s efforts to help the Hindu communities spread throughout the United States of America, including California, and throughout the world.”

Zed, who is President of Universal Society of Hinduism, delivered on July 18 the first historic Hindu invocation of Madera City Council in its 105 years of existence. After sprinkling few drops of water from holy river Ganga of India, he recited from Rig-Veda, the oldest scripture of the world still in common use, besides lines from Upanishads and Bhagavad-Gita (Song of the Lord), both ancient Hindu scriptures. October 25 is Zed’s birthday.

Bestowed with World Interfaith Leader Award; Rajan Zed is Senior Fellow and Religious Advisor to Foundation for Religious Diplomacy, Spiritual Advisor to National Association of Interchurch & Interfaith Families, etc.

"Born from the Timber Industry" and incorporated in 1907, Madera which means "wood or timber" in Spanish, is home to “pair of Palm Tree & Redwood” marking the center of South and North California.  Prominent people associated with it include recording artist Bill Aken, space science writer Kelly Beatty and women’s Mixed Martial Arts champion Zoila Frausto. Andrew J. Medellin and David Tooley are Mayor Pro Tem and City Administrator respectively.
