Like Tina Turner’s ‘Proud Mary’, the Bollywood Divas night started off slow, easy and powerful with Bageshree Vaze, Vineet Vyas and Tarana Dance Company, gathering speed through the flaming ‘Diyas’ and Kama Entertainment acts and finally culminating in Suzanne D’Mello’s fast paced performance!

The 4 hour jam-packed show kicked off at 7 pm on June 14. Emcee Divas, Jyoti Rana and Syma Shah along with compere extraordinaire Husein Madhavji welcomed the huge throngs of people of every conceivable cultural background that had gathered at Dundas Square to get hexed by the magical Bollywood night in store for them. The evening started with a teaser from Diyas, followed by an exhilarating fusion of traditional classical and modern dance and music by Bageshree Vaze and her husband Vineet, backed by the talented Tarana Dance Company. There was thunderous applause as Bageshree showed off her exemplary foot work and artful twirling movements, while Vineet manifested his prowess with the tabla. Then followed a Bollywood workshop by Diyas who showed the multitude of people how to thrust their hips, wiggle their bellies and move their arms in true Bollywood style. The crowd totally engaged themselves with the instructors as they broke into ‘Desi girl’ and the crowd yelled ‘Desi girls are hot’ as they followed their every move.
Following Diyas electrifying workshop, on came Suzanne D’Mello, especially flown in from India, and well known for having collaborated and toured with living legend Allah Rakha Rahman, She opened up with her hit dance song ‘Chiggy Wiggy’ from “Blue”, where Akshay Kumar dances with Kylie Minogue, totalling energizing the crowd right from the start. She went on enchanting the audience with more of her hits including ‘Dreams on fire ‘ from “Slumdog Millionaire” which got the audience swaying in waves. After a half hour performance she left the stage to make way for Kama Entertainment who showed the crowd the energetic dance routine ‘Zumba’ derived from Latin hip shaking and body swaying movements and added a Bollywood twist as they weaved in some pointed hip and bust thrust movements sending the crowd into a frenzy!
Finally on came Suzanne again to loud clamours of approval and gave an amazingly high octane show that set Dundas Square ablaze! She mesmerized the crowd entirely and ended the night with the grand hit ‘Jai Ho’ setting everybody on fire!

It was indeed a night to remember!
