‘Tere Bina’ (Without You), the highly anticipated debut single by Avina Shah is now available for download on iTunes. Developed to raise awareness of the delicate issue of domestic violence, ‘Tere Bina’ features a unique combination of Avina’s angelic vocals with heart-touching lyrics and a super-catchy chorus.

Inspired by the story of Kiranjit Ahluwalia, featured in the hit movie ‘Provoked’ starring Aishwarya Rai, a new subtitled version of the video has also just been released on YouTube to translate and spread the message further amongst a non-Hindi speaking audience. Proceeds from the single will be donated to West London based charity the Southall Black Sisters (SBS).

‘Since the launch of the song, I have been contacted by many women who have been touched by the message behind the single. Those that have contacted me are either suffering domestic violence or have suffered and overcome it in the past. The prevalence is shocking – I always knew it was a common issue but I’m realising now that it’s more common than I even imagined. It’s really worrying that this is still happening so frequently in such a modern society. I hope that this song can bring positivity to victims of this crime and encourage them to get help”, says Avina.
The official launch of the single, held at Mustard Bar, London on 29th October 2010 welcomed a number of high profile media, who each had the opportunity to meet Avina as well as members of Southall Black Sisters.  The reception hosted an exclusive LIVE acoustic performance by Avina to celebrate the single’s official release as well as a special guest performance by Karen David of the song ‘Alive’ which featured in the movie ‘Provoked’ and was co-written with A R Rahman. Navin Kundra, who co-wrote ‘Tere Bina’ with Avina, as well as Canadian singer Parichay also performed live PAs at the event.
