Unlike many others called to testify that year, Clemens adamantly denied having ever used performance enhancing drugs. The verdict was a resounding rejection of the government’s case by the jury. This was the second time Clemens was tried, the first case having been declared a mistrial last year by Judge Reggie Walton after prosecutors failed to redact evidence before trial. The government failed to prove that Clemens lied to congress.
“I’ve put a lot of hard work into that career,” Roger Clemens told the assembled after today’s verdict.
