Oshawa PowerThe Oshawa Power went down to a determined Saint John Mill Rats squad 113-99, ending the Power’s quest to qualify for the playoffs in the NBL Canada’s inaugural season.

The Mill Rats came flying out the gate in this one, taking a 34-24 lead after the first quarter. The second frame was no kinder to the visiting Power as Saint John put up another 34 points to lead it convincingly 68-43 at the half.

The Power had a solid third quarter scoring 26 points but the Rats did not let up, pouring in 28 points of their own to lead it 96-69 after 3. The Power fought valiantly to the finish, closing the gap via a 30-17 fourth quarter victory. But it wasn’t the Power’s night as the Mill Rats will advance to the playoffs to face the London Lightning, with the first game taking place next Tuesday in Saint John.

The Power were led by the NBL Canada’s leading scorer, Brandon Robinson who poured in a game-high 24 points to go with 7 rebounds and 5 assists. Rick Bodiford came up with a gem scoring 19 points, dishing out 5 assists while pulling down 8 rebounds. York University alum Tut Ruach scored 7 points and chipped in 6 assists.

“It hurts, especially to lose the way we did,” said Ruach. “We’re a much better team than we showed tonight and that’s the most disappointing part about it.”

The Mill Rats were led by Jermaine Blackburn’s 22 points. Anthony Anderson recorded a double-double of 20 points and 10 rebounds for Saint John as well.

The Power will now finish out the season on the road Friday night against Summerside Storm at 6:30 p.m. ET. A win by the Power would knot the season series at 3 games apiece.
