Barring Delhi Daredevils who decided not to retain any player and Kings XI Punjab who retained Manan Vohra alongside David Miller, no other team surprised anyone with their picks. CSK, as expected went ahead with Dhoni, Ashwin, Raina, Jadeja and Bravo. Although Vijay, unlike the last time of retention is not retained, but CSK may buy him back. Mumbai Indians’ decision not to retain Johnson could backfire; unless they buy back Johnson in the auction. For RR, they have backed the players who served them well in the last IPL season and before. It is almost certain that they would build their team with these five being the core. RCB have used their purse sensibily and retained their top three batsmen. It would be fun to see who they buy once the auction gets underway. KKR and SRH have retained their top batsman and best bowler.
