Toronto ArgonautsThe Toronto Argonauts Football Club has enlisted WR Tyree Barnes for active duty at 2012 training camp. The U.S. Navy graduate has returned from 24 months active service where he served off the coast of eastern Africa. 

Lieutenant Junior Grade, and receiver, Tyree Barnes played four seasons at Navy and as a senior he accounted for nearly half the number of receptions his team made that entire season. Barnes signed with the New England Patriots after college and was immediately placed on the Reserve/Military List for the next 24 months as he reported for active duty with the U.S. Navy. During his service, he was an electronics warfare officer who dealt with counter-missile activity. His most recent tour (2010) was off the coast of Somalia where his ship, the USS Gonzalez (DDG-66), worked anti-piracy missions. Barnes returned to New England last July and spent all of training camp there.

Acquired: Signed with Toronto as a free agent on February 23, 2012. 

2011: Returned to the New England Patriots and reported for training camp in July…Released as a final cut. 

2010: Active service with U.S. Navy. 

2009: Signed by the Patriots as an undrafted free agent on May 4…Placed on Reserve/Military List on July 23 and reported for 24 month active duty with the U.S. Navy. 

College Played four seasons at Navy (2005-08)…2008 Played in 13 games as a senior…Grabbed 20 receptions for 400 yards and two TDs…Accounted for 20 of Navy’s 46 receptions on the season…2007 Started at Receiver in all 13 games as a junior…Caught 10 passes for 168 yards and 1 TD…2006 Saw action in 12 of 13 games as a sophomore…Caught six passes for 105 yards and 1 TD…2005 Played in all 12 games as a freshman…Scored his first two career touchdowns against Duke and Notre Dame respectively.

During his 24 month service, Tyree was an electronics warfare officer who dealt with counter-missile activity. Tyree is a member of the Future Business Leaders of America and was an Economics major who also earned a Bachelor of Science at Navy. He enjoys listening to and learning about music and the industry as a whole. He has an interest in muscle cars and is currently restoring a 1971 Pontiac.
