MIKE BABCOCK POSTGAME: OCTOBER 19, 2016

On coming away with a single point:

Obviously we had things going pretty good, it was 4-1 going into the third and we lost the draw early in the third and they scored. Then I thought the momentum went their way. I still thought we had lots of good looks and opportunity, the goalie made some saves. We had a good look in overtime too and then they had a good look and they won. It’s disappointing, any time you’re up you want to shut the game down and take care of it and keep playing. I thought we didn’t stay with it the same way and I thought they got better in the third. In the end, we get what we get.

On a young team learning to play with the lead:

Well you’ve just got to keep playing the same way, you can’t get on your heels. Now, I didn’t think – one lost faceoff, second one we block a shot and it bounced right to their guy — I didn’t think it was wave after wave, and I thought we had our chances. In saying that, you’ve got to find a way to take care of the puck, you’ve got to find a way to play in the offensive zone and keep attacking. We always talk about trying to play like the game is tied so you’re always going for the next one. That way you stay on your toes.

FREDERIK ANDERSEN POSTGAME: OCTOBER 19, 2016

On the Winnipeg comeback:

I think they started skating a lot more than we did, like we had been in the first. I think we took the foot off the gas a little bit and we paid for it.

AUSTON MATTHEWS POSTGAME: OCTOBER 19, 2016

On Winnipeg getting back into the game:

They’re a very good hockey club and they’ve got a lot of great players. I think we need to learn how to play with a lead. We were up 4-1, we were playing like we were down 4-1. We need to be smart with the puck, be smart in our D zone and just learn how to play with that lead.

On the play of his line with Nylander and Hyman:

I thought we got better. That first period we were off to a slow start, but I thought the second and third we were able to control the puck down low and create some more scoring chances. It’s good momentum getting a couple of goals on the power play there. I think all in all there’s always stuff to improve on. We’ll circle back and go into Minnesota tomorrow in full force.

WILLIAM NYLANDER POSTGAME: OCTOBER 19, 2016

On the feeling heading into the third period:

I think we felt pretty good, I think we maybe took our foot off the gas a little bit coming into the third. I think we’ve got to learn how to play with a lead. We had a lead in Ottawa too so it’s something we’ve got to work on.

On the team learning from the game:

Of course, you always learn from your mistakes. We’ll work on it and move forward tomorrow.

MORGAN RIELLY POSTGAME: OCTOBER 19, 2016

On the shift in momentum:

They’re a good team. They have a lot of speed and they have a lot of skill up front. Obviously at the end of the third there it was on full display.
